Life is Wonderful - Day 1 in Rome

Rome is a little surreal, only because everywhere you look you see what you have only seen in your textbooks, or in calendars, or in movies... For anyone with a remote interest in art you are in instant 'artistic overload'. Everything has an artistic flare, from the architecture, to the statues, to the gardens, the coffee, the gelato....everything!

After arriving and being nicely jet-legged, we plunked down to an early night and than rose to early to explore. It is unusually nice in Rome for this time of year (+12 Celsius with CLEAR blue skies). I haven't felt the heat of the sun in a while-  even when it is sunny in Glasgow it doesn't warm your insides like it does here.

Anywhoo, here are a few of our favorites...

Our lovely hotel room, all the hotels have these metal electronic covers fromt the outside, so they stay very dark, quiet and safe at night. Love.

View from the hotel terrace

National Monument to 1st King of Italy.
Need I say more.

Monument to persecuted Christians at the Coliseum - though they say there is not evidence it happened here, the Pope had this set up. I do believe that Christians were martyred here, even though the history books may not say so.

Picking oranges in ancient Rome. Grabbed an unripe one. MORE SOUR THAN ANYTHING I HAVE EVER TASTED.

Pantheon

Trevi Fountain

Finishing of our day with a glass of wine in the hotel Lounge

Cheers to Life.
